Business Analytics Analyst

Roles and Responsibilities:

An Analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing and reporting findings on clients’ search and marketing data that are applicable for growth and improvement strategies. They will receive an analysis brief specifying the requirements for the requested analysis of the client’s data which will fall into the following areas of strategic analysis: Engine Expansion/Analysis, Keyword Expansion Analysis, Segmentation Analysis (Geographic, Time of Day, Channel). They are responsible for requesting additional client or data needs from the Strategist responsible for initiating the analysis request if there are questions/areas un-specified in the original brief.

When an Analyst has full understanding of the analysis requirements and goals, they review available client data for feasibility, verifying that there is enough statistically relevant data to perform a thorough analysis. After analysis has been completed, reporting key findings in a clear and concise manner to the Strategist with any recommended tactical initiatives is a critical component for the analysis to be considered complete. Analysts will be required to evolve in their development and focus into a primary area of strategic analysis, becoming a specialist in that area and therefore providing extensive knowledge and expertise in this area that can be leveraged across teams/client situations.

An Analyst’s success is measured by their ability to accurately analyze available data and report back relevant key findings to the team in a timely manner. They will also be measured by the level of collaboration and consultation they provide to Strategists. Their capacity to understand the necessary data set(s) required for each requested analysis project, an understanding of general business concepts and how the performed analysis and recommendations may affect the business goals of our clients should be the primary focus of all Analysts.

Essential Job Functions:
Research

  • Requirements Gathering
    • Review analysis brief attached to strategic analysis request.  Request additional client/analysis information from the Strategist
    • Perform high level overview of available data to assess feasibility of requested analysis
  • Project Timeline/Deadline Management
    • When an analysis project has been assessed and considered viable, the requested project should be given an expected completion date.  If an analysis project has a requested completion date by the team that is earlier than projected, a communication needs to be sent to both the team Account Director, Strategist and Senior Strategist indicating why the requested completion date is unachievable and any possible resolutions that must be made.
    • Create any necessary sub projects/tasks needed to complete the requested analysis project by the expected completion date

Analysis

  • Data Gathering
    • Utilize all available internal tools and reports to pull the necessary data needed for the requested analysis
    • Constantly looking for other external data sources that could provide further insight into the requested analysis
  • Collaboration
    • Work with Client Service team members and Business Analytics group members to further inform the analysis if there are gaps in what the data is showing.
    • Collaborate with Search Engine Specialist on analysis projects that focus on engine syndication partners, content/contextual elements of campaigns, and other projects that identify opportunities and key findings that can support case studies and white papers developed for Client Services department, industry, or clients.
    • Collaborates with Strategist to brainstorm relevant analysis/reporting projects and key findings and points for client presentations, case building, and client value-add.
    • May support Senior Strategist, Director, Decision Sciences, and Director, Business Analytics on “blue sky” analysis projects that will support case studies, white papers, or advanced analytics findings/initiatives.

Reporting

  • Organization
    • Once an analysis project is complete, the key facts/findings need to be communicated back to the requesting team in a clear a concise format
    • Collaborates with Senior Strategist and Strategist on best format for presentation of key points/findings from reports and raw data
    • Using department reporting templates, build an organized report highlighting key findings with segments of raw data supporting the findings.
  • Communication of findings
    • Recommends tactical campaign changes/projects necessary for improved results attached with delivered reports and key findings

Supervisory Responsibility:
None

Direct Reporting Responsibility:
This individual will report to the Director, Business Analytics, and work closely with Strategists daily.
